Hi,
Has Windows XP afforded you the opportunity to "Send Report" to Microsoft?
There is an issue with Generic Host Process, for which there is a patch
available. The patch is not recommended at this time unless the Generic Host
Process is presenting a problem. The patch will be offered in Service Pack 3
for Windows XP. It's number is KB894391.
My issue with Generic Host Process was different and might not apply to your
situation. Anyway, for what it's worth to you, here is a note that I wrote
for my reference when it occurred with my computer:
"Install this update to address an issue that may cause a "Generic Host
Process" error message to be displayed after you install security update
MS05-012, or cause attachment file names not to be displayed in Rich Text
e-mail messages.
"I was having the Generic Host Process errors. When I did Error Reporting,
Microsoft recommended that I install this fix. Otherwise, they have
recommended that if it is not a problem to wait for Service Pack 3, which
will include this fix."

I've tried the fix but it dont work. I havent installed service pack 2 so
dont think its the problem. Could my sound card be going bad?

Sorry the fix didn't solve your problem. I can't answer your question about
your sound card, sorry. What version of WMP
are you using? Some have posted that they have experienced problems with
version 10 of WMP. Perhaps, if you are using
that version, try removing and reinstalling it? That is cheaper than
buying a new sound card that might not be the solution.
Or, you might consider reverting to version 9 of WMP, if appropriate.
