The Generic Host Process is a host for other processes. There are
typically 3 or 4 Generic Host Processes running at any one time, and
taken together, they host dozens of processes, any one of which could be
causing your problem. Find the underlying host that causes your problem
and you'll know what to do.
The first thing to suspect is one of the many types of malicious
software, known collectively as malware. Malware is usually (but not
always) behind Generic Host error messages. Svchost.exe is a convenient
way for malware to disguise itself, since few people know how to see the
processes running behind svchost or understand what they are.
Since malware can be very hard to detect you typically need to scan your
system for malicious software with /several/ of the better online
scanners (Kaspersky, Eset, Trend Micro, Panda, Sophos, Symantec etc.) If
necessary, submit a HiJack This log to one of the expert web sites that
analyze these logs.
