Generic Disk Drive

I am running XP Pro SP2 with two identical Western Digital hard drives.
The first drive is listed as a "disk drive" and the second is listed with
the specs
of the WD drive (WDC WD25 00JB-00GVC0 SCSI Disk Device) correctly.
How do I change the listing "disk drive" to show the correct WD drive or
enable
the operating system to recognize the drive correctly. I don't believe it to
be a hardware issue. I have a dual boot system with 98SE. When I boot the
98SE partition the Device Manager lists the two WD drives identically as
Western Digital drives. The hard drives are new, about a month old.

Thanks, Bob

Has the second HD been partitioned and formatted?

GHalleck,
Yes, the slave drive is a mirror of the master and serves as a
backup of both operating systems. I did check the registry SCSI entries. The
drive values are listed under hkey_local_
machine\system\controlset003\enum\scsi\disk&ven_wdc_wd25&prod_00jb-00gvco&rev_08.0\38c6f5922&0&000
under FriendlyName as Disk drive. I tried to change the value to the WD specs
as they are for the slave drive but I get the error “cannot edit
FriendlyName: Error writing the value’s new contentsâ€. I believe this is the
part of the registry that contains the Disk drive values shown in the Device
Manager. Why doesn’t the registry editor allow me to change this value? If
this isn’t the correct registry key, please steer me in the right direction.

Thanks, Bob
