If you got rid of FIFTEEN viruses and you have problems booting your pc
you should really format your drive and reinstall Windows! I would
think of using IBM zap.exe to zap the drive and start everything new
with fdisk.

If you decide to format your drive MAKE SURE that you have msblast fix
and firewall program archived and then installed on the new W2K BEFORE
you plug your new installation to the net.

I scanned system for virus and got rid of some 15 viruses. Later system
crashed.
I uninstalled the responsible anitivrus and got the system running.
since then whenever I boot up the windows takes a long time to check the
protected files' consistency and presence.
I want to get rid of it.
Startup from Programs does not have link to this utility.
Also I can not load the regedit or regedt32 .exe in normal view so that Ia
cn not check it.
The registry editor flashes and then vanishes every time I try to oen hte
editor.
Please guide.
Thanks in advance.

PS. Not being able to use your registry editor is an indication that
you may have a sixteenth virus.

You evidently havbe not finished removing viruses.

The type of behavior you describe is typical behavior of more than
one virus/worm, the three below being the most common:

W32.Klez

W32.Yaha
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/[email protected]

W32.Spybot.Worm
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.spybot.worm.html

Because many of the newer viruses and worms, such as the
Spybot mentioned above, can disable antivirus applications whose
definitions aren't kept up-to-date, try using one or more of the free
on-line scanners to double-check your system.

Trend Micro - Free online virus Scan

McAfee Security - FreeScan

Bad advice. Formatting the hard drive to solve a virus or spyware
problem is
rather like using an axe to trim one's fingernails. Sure, it'll
probably get the job done, but it's rather messy...., and almost
always unnecessary.
