Hi all,
I was wondering if it is possible for a virus to make a hard drive
unrecognizable when a computer boots up.
Started my computer the other day, and as it boots up, before POST, it stops
because no hard drive is recognized. Could it be a virus?

thanks

It's not very likely. It sounds more like a simple hardware
failure.

yes, checked everything obvious... sounds like the platter is trying to spin
but gets stuck...
i'll just get a new one and see what happens.

See if Fujitsu has a downloadable drive diagnostic. Run it, then talk to
tech support. You may get a free replacement.

You might also see if the drive misbehaves after a DOS diskette boot. If
it's all NTFS, get a copy of the NTFSDOS util from sysinternals.com.
