Do any type of office program...like Word, Office,
Works...Excel...anything come with this version of
Windows?

Is there anywhere that I can download any of these
programs?

I see a folder for Microsoft FrontPage version 3.0 but
there is nothing in it! Is there somewhere I can download
that?

Thanks!

These are retail programs that can be purchased at software stores or from
sellers on the Net. Some sellers may bundle such software with their PC
packages, but they are not normally included with the operating system.

No, No and No. None of the Microsoft Office programs were ever included in
any release of windows. None are downloadable and must be purchased.

However, Wordpad is bundled with XP. As a basic wordprocessor, it'll work
ok.

Correction: None are LEGALLY downloadable.

.

No, Microsoft Office Suite programs are not a part of XP. You must buy them
separately. If you need something for those purposes, you might look at Open
Office which is an open source set of office programs which are free. Stick
"Open Office" in a search program such as Google and give it a try.

Windows is an operating system. Office is a suite of applications. Both
are separate products, and you'll need to purchase a copy of whichever
version of MS Office best meets your needs.

Cherie:

Try here:

http://www.openoffice.org

OpenOffice.Org is a office applications suite, about 95% equivalent
to Microsoft Office XP. It reads and writes MS Office files (and
publishes .PDF format files) , it's free, well supported and works very
well.

The Windows version is BIG (about 112mb) so the download will take
awhile unless you have a broadband connection. The suite contains a
full feature word processor, Excel compatible spreadsheet, presentation
module (akin to Powerpoint), and an HTML editor. Spell checking and
other utilities are included.

Should do all you need.

No. Wordpad, a very basic word processor, is included.

Not these specifically. They are commercial programs and you have to
buy them. There are alternatives. Check
http://www.jarte.com/index.html for Jarte, a free word processor which
claims to be built on Word Pad's core, but to be much more powerful
than Word Pad. Also check http://www.openoffice.org for Open Office, a
free, open source office suite. Here's a quote from their FAQ:

What components are included in OpenOffice.org?
OpenOffice.org components include word processing, spreadsheets,
presentations, drawings, data charting, formula editing, and file
conversion facilities (including those for Microsoft Office formats).

Front Page is also a commercial program that you can buy. I don't know
why there's a folder for it if it hasn't been installed.

Also Spybot will not work on this PC with W-XP either. Spybot catches more
than Ad-Aware and we want to use it. Our frustration and unhappiness with
W-XP grow by the day.

"Open Office" will NOT install on my version of W-XP Home Edition. How does
one get the installer to work on XP?

Ask Open Office support if there is any.

Are you running and installing while using an administrator
user account?
