general protection fault

Once I open IE6, certain pages, istead of opening, will
give me an error message and close IE6. I had this problem
recently in IE5 so I got rid of it and loaded 6.0. I guess
that didn't help. I checked my internet settings and ran
Spybot, AdAware and Webroot Spy Sweeper. Nothing helped.
The error details are:
IEXPLORE caused a general protection fault
in module USER.EXE at 001c:000013b8.

Two issues to look at:

From a previous post by "Lee" :
Every time I go to Alta Vista UK search engine, and try to enter something
in the search field box .
I get The following message.
IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in module USER.EXE at 001e:0000166c.
It can be resolved by following the steps in this article. The symptoms
aren't quite as described on this page, but the fix is the same.
Error Message Typing Address in Address Box or in Open Box.

Cannot launch IE, however, I can launch Outlook Express, which leads me to
think that the problem is only with IE6.
Solved the problem. It was apparently caused by the free popup stopper
supplied by my ISP. Just deleted the popup stopper and everything is up and
running.

If still no luck and you have used the latest file definition for AdAware
(new one yesterday) and SpyBot then I would suggest you get help from this
forum.

Go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads.php#det
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware] or download direct (below):
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

If you get a 404 error or Access denied, try:
http://216.180.252.218/~spywareinfo.com/downloads/tools/hijackthis.zip

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates "hijackthis.log")

Next, HijackThis | Config [button] | Misc Tools [button]
Click: Generate StartupList log [button] (generates "startuplist.txt")

Next, go to the below location:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/forums/

Sign in, then copy and paste both files in your message.
