Games that automatically try install Direct X 9.0c

What to you do when prompted by a computer game to install Direct X 9.0c?
Will that try and overwrite Direct X 10? Do you just say no to the install
of Direct X 9.0c and if you do - what happens to the overall installation of
your game?

Someone please help!

I've been told that there is no problem in letting a game instal 9.0c. The
installer will only write the files that are not there, leaving the DX10
files alone since they are newer. I've done it and what little demos that
are available for DX10 didn't have any problems running on my system.

Just let them install DX9.0c. It won't overwrite any files, and if they
don't exist, it adds them. It won't overwrite DX10 files at all, and some
games require some DX9.0c components. This is the simple answer, MS
developers have a much more indepth answer if you need it.

But, it doesn't hurt anything to install DX9.0c.

Well, Battlefield 2 won't install if you cancel the DX9 installer. But have
no worries, you're not going ot hurt vista by installing DX9.0c, as it
doesn't really install anything. Now, don't confuse, install DX90c with
installing the DX9.0c updates, which is what games like FEAR and Battlefield
2142 do.

Hi, just let the game install fully even when it says it is updating the
Directx with 9.0c it won't over write Directx 10. I've reinstalled all my
games since doing a clean install of Vista and it still has Directx 10. I
think once it goes to install the Directx 9 it realizes that you have an
more update version so doesn't install it after all.

If you cancel installing Direct 9.0c then the whole game won't install.
