Hi all...
I have been reading loads of text about XP SP2 and on how
great and crap it is, problems here and good things there.
My biggest question is:
As a hard core gamer, how will SP2 affect me and my
presious gaming.
I remembering reading a short thing about conflict with
the DirectX and so on...

Anyone have som info or problem or no problem?

I have Doom3 (and other's), played it before and after
installation of SP2, no problems at all, everthing works
just as well as it did before.

Thanks for the post and the replies about gamers and xpsp2 because my hubby
is a gamer and he would probably scream (and strangle me) if his games
didn't work with sp2...
LOL!
Now I feel a tid bit better..
He has not played any of his games yet on the computer since the install of
sp2

I am a diehard Everquest player. SP2 has made my life hell. I have talked
to many others who have removed or not installed SP2 for this reason. I had
to remove ZoneAlarm because SP2 and ZA seem to be incompatible. It is really
frustrating because my NT box is just trucking along while the XP box with
the newer 'technology' unexplainedly crashes and freezes. I haven't seen
anyone specifically address the mmporg games but my understanding from
reading the gaming boards is that there are major issues here.

Not true at all. ZA and sp2 work just fine together. The new security center
even sees the newer version of za and monitors it correctly.

Did you prepare your machine properly before installing sp2? Is this an oem
$400 machine with cheap hardware or is it a real computer? XP is newer
technology and for most sp2 installs and works fine. Even for gamers. If
you'd like to explain more about the crashes maybe someone can help.

I don't do any online gaming, mine is always locally or a lan party so I
can't comment on that.

Besides making sure that your computer is 100% virus and spyware-free,
you might want to give your RAM a test. I just upgraded my son's box
w/new m/b and processor. New hard drive w/XPSP2. His Warcraft
continually crashed. Turned out to be the RAM. So test w/Memtest86 and
also try swapping out the RAM.

Hi,

I have XP Pro SP2 on 3 of my personal computers. I have lots of games that
I play on them all. I haven`t had any troubles playing EQ (Fennin Ro
server) on any of the 3 systems. 2 systems are desktops I made and 1 system
is a Dell Notebook. I also play Eve-Online on all 3 systems and haven`t had
any problems from XP Pro or SP2. I have bunch of other games that uses a
lot graphics and sound, they work just fine. You probably have problems
with drivers or spyware as with most others who have been having problems
with SP2.
