Gameport in XP

C

Colin McColl

I have just upgraded from Win98SE to WinXPPro and now find
that my CHForceFX Joystick, connected wwith a generic
throttle and Rudder pedals via a 'Y'cable into the
SOundblaster Live Gameport will not calibrate. The cursor
flicks all over the place, although it says "connected OK"
in the Games Applet.and sometimed freezes,so it is
virtually imppossible to calibrate. It worked perfectly in
win98.I have downloaded the WinXP compatibility drivers
from CHproducts. But although better is still too 'twitchy'
to use properly. Can anybody offer a solution please.

Hi Colin,

You might want to use the native XP drivers instead.
Open the Control Panel / Game Controllers applet
and then click Add... to install your Joystick.

Jimmy, thanks for your response.Re. THE native XP drivers I
try these first and with any of them when added, the cursor
flies all over the place, and then usually freezes, and so
is almost impossible to calibrate.I've heard this is
either because XP is more demanding than Win 98,as regards
Gameports, also that most recent soundcards have a "Midi"
port rather than a true[and faster] Gameport. So I now need
to get one of these. The one I'm using now is a Creative
Soundblaster.

Hi Col,

You're welcome. :) You might want to consider updating
your controllers to USB models instead of getting another
sound card with a gameport. (Just my opinion)
