X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter Joystick Issue

I'm running a fully updated install of WinXP Pro, and have a Gravis
Thunderbird hooked up to my Soundblaster Live's gameport. My joystick is
connected and calibrational via Windows XP's "Game Controllers" panel. XvT
will load, which I've heard will only happen if a joystick is detected, but
I'm unable to use or configure the joystick in game. Anyone know how to fix
this? (putting it in "Compatibility Mode" for Win95 or Win98/ME just puts
it in a weird loop where it tries to start, quits, tries to start again,
etc.) Thanks.

Do you have any other joysticks or gamepads connected, or installed?
Also, at the XVT menu, were you able to Calibrate it, when clicking on,
Calibrate Joystick? Just curious...

I have a Logitech USB Wingman Precision connected. From the external XvT
splash, before the game is loaded, I am able to calibrate, as it links to
the "Game Controllers" panel. In game, can't calibrate or set buttons.
