gamepads and XP

I got a new PC with windows XP home edition. My old PC
ran on Windows 98. I had two Gravis Gamepad Pro
controller which worked perfectly but now in all the
games that I have the buttons are performing functions
other than the ones they are supposed to. I bought a
Microsoft Sidewinder Plug and Play controller which of
course is recognised automatically by windows XP but this
didn't help.

Can anyone give me advice in fixing this problem?

You can try going to Control Panel/Game Controllers
and adjust the settings for the buttons. I have "old"
Gravis Destroyer with a USB adapter and took about 15
minutes to make the settings. XP uses the PNP but you
might still have to fix the settings. Nothing is easy
these days.
