Game Freezes with Age of Mythology

I have a nvidia GE force 4 ti 4600. I run Windows XP on
my dell 8200 with Pentium 4 2.2 ghz with 256 mb ram. I
get to the main menu for the game and it freezes for a
minute then it runs real fast and freezes again. I have
the newest version of DirectX 9.0b 4.09.0000.0902. I
updated the drivers from nvidia and then went back to the
original drivers. I believe Bios are default. Please
help
