Game crash: Starcraft..Baldur's Gate II

I have experienced game crash on games like Starcraft and
Baldur's Gate II, but my Warcraft and Counter-strike
works just fine(Ahh...Is my comp too good to run 2D
games?)

The crash can occur anytime during the game, but one hour
without crashing is probably the limit. The crash is a
blue screen of "dumping physical memory do disk" with
0x0000008e (...)

I've tried updating the drivers of all my hardware but
the problem remains. I think in the Microsoft Knowledge
Base they mentioned something about a hotfix but there's
no where to download it from.

This problem have been bugging me and preventing me from
getting a well-rounded social life (playing Starcraft w/
friends;), and I give my hearty thanks to all that
replies.

My hardware as follows:
AMD Anthlon XP 3000+
ATI Radeon 9500 pro
Gigabyte 7vaxp Ultra (motherboard, uses Via K7 chipset)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2

I did a search of the knowledge base for Stop 8e. I think the article
you're referring to is a USB crash on XP:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;833680. Do you see
the file mentioned in this article on your crash? I know the fix referenced
in the articles is available on Windows Update. I don't remember if it was
a critical fix or if it's under the Windows XP heading.

Both of the applications you mentioned came out long before the release of
Windows XP. It's likely their memory handling is different from what an NT
based OS expects. I did a Google search on "Baldur's Gate + XP" and
"Starcraft + XP" and there's been some complaints about both applications
but a lot of people seem to be able to make the games run. I couldn't find
anything specific to your Stop 8E error.

The article I referred to was this one
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;330187&Product=winxp
I have downloaded all the window updates (even those
unneccessary ones)

Actually my computer once ran Baldur's Gate II pretty
well. It was after 1. I installed the ATI Catalyst 4.2
driver or 2. I installed the Return of the King game that
it started crashing. I tried rolling back the driver,
uninstall the game, even reinstall Windows XP but it
wouldn't work.

Hmm... if it was working at one point the reinstall of XP should have taken
care of things unless there's an incompatiability with some other software
on your system that was also reinstalled. I seem to recall that the
Baldur's Gate games had a "hi-res" OpenGL option (vs. software rendering).
Have you tried disabling it to see if the game works properly?

The only other suggestion I can make is look at the other apps you have
running on your system while playing Baldur's Gate. Sometimes programs like
SETI@home , virus scanners, or additional program applets interfere with a
game.
