I have a Genius F-16 joystick, brand new, but I cannot have it working on my
computer, Intel P4 2.8GHz. The message is Not connected! What can I do?
Please help me, my children are very dissapointed.

Hi.

My quess is that the problem is most likely with the device driver. Make
sure you have the latest drivers for your joystick and motherboard / sound
card.. (If you have a separate soundcard, the joystick is most likely
connected to it. If you have intergrated sound, you might need to update the
motherboard driver.

Also check if the device manager gives you any errors for the gameport. You
can do this by going to "Control panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device
manager" Well labels may differ a bit I think depending if you run home or
proffessional xp.
Anyways once the device manager is open, doubleclick on "Sound, video and
game controllers". There should be an entry there something like "standard
gameport" or something. If there is no error mark on the icon before it,
everything should be fine and the gameport ok. If there are any error
messages you can right click on the device and see its properties and any
error messages. Post them here then.

If the drivers are up-to-date and there are no errors in the device manager,
please come back with following information:
- What soundcard you have
- What motherboard you have

I hope this was of some help,
Tarmo

First, thank you very much for your answer, it means a lot for me.
The hardware information you requested: Gigabyte 8IK1100 Intel Socket 478
ATX Motherboard and Integrated Realtek ALC655 AC'97 audio CODEC chip.
I think that I already have the latest drivers. I tried to change the game
port cable, but still Not connected.

On another computer the joystick is working.

Thanks a lot again.

Hi again.

i think your gameport is just disabled on that machine. So if you have not
done it yet, please go to the device manager as I described and see if it
shows any errors under the "Sound, Video and Game controllers".
"Control panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device manager" Well labels may
differ a bit I think depending if you run home or proffessional XP.
Are there any errors visible under that heading? Is there a lien there
saying gameport in it?

Tarmo
