Michael, I think the OP is looking for Sidebar gadgets for XP that work like
the ones for Vista. Applets like the clock, cpu meter, stock ticker, and so
forth.

You can look for several "sidebar" utilities that people have made for
Xp.

You should also look at Yahoo! Widget (formerly Konfabulator.)
