FYI - POP3 Availability & free Hotmail accounts

Some time ago, Windows Live indicated that they were working on implementing
free POP services for Windows Live Hotmail. The time has come and we are
glad to announce that we have begun rolling out free POP3 services to all
Windows Live Hotmail users. Since Windows Live Hotmail spans such a large
infrastructure, we need to turn this on in a controlled manner. We have
decided that it would be most appropriate to bring our users on by country.
This will allow us to slowly ramp up the new POP services and expand to the
infrastructure.

As part of Phase 1, we have rolled this feature out to all free users in
the following countries:

UK, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, and the
Netherlands.

Next Phases are still in planning and US will be included in Phase 2 which
is targeted sometime in the month of February. We will be updating this
solution article with more specific dates as we get closer to the migration.

Heh. The more things change....

I remember way back in the Internet Age of Enlightenment when I used a 3rd
party tool to download my Hotmail into OE. Then MS bought Hotmail and
blocked those tools from working.

QED: What will become of OL Connector? Did MS blow $$ developing it and
DeltaSync (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DeltaSync)?

QED: Did MS blow even more $$ (and user sentiment) developing Windows Live
Mail, to the detriment of both OE and Windows Mail, if free Hotmail accounts
would be accessible via POP3 in Windows Mail?
