Fuzzy screen at higher refresh rates

NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro
Monitor: ViewSonic PF790
OpenGL is also installed.
XP Pro

I have installed the newest drivers from the nVIDIA site (though I had
this same problem with the drivers using MS update). With the refresh
rate set at 60 Hz the text and desktop in general are very sharp. If I
increase the refresh rate the text and desktop get fuzzy. The monitor
should do 89 Hz at 1280x1024. I don't think I had this problem with
Win98 installed.

You are inaccurate with regars to refresh rate: which explains your problem.
Set the refresh to a level within specs and all will be OK.

BAR posted the specs for your monitor. Refresh Rate at Max Resolution is 77
Hz. By setting the refresh rate to 89 Hz, you are 12 Hz above the limit. You
are, in other words, driving the monitor beyond its specified operating
parameters.

Thanks for the reply. I hear what you two are saying and I guess I
don't understand the subject as well as I thought I did. From the specs
of this monitor:

1600x1200 @ 77Hz
1280x1024 @ 89Hz
1024x768 @ 118Hz

I thought I could run it at the listed refresh rates for each
corresponding resolution. You are indicating I shouldn't set the
refresh rate higher than 77 Hz since that is the highest at the max
resolution. I currently have it set at 1280x1024 @ 72 Hz and it is OK,
but I think still slightly fuzzy compared with setting it at 60 Hz.

The refresh rate should not affect "fuzziness", unless the monitor is
being overdriver at a rate beyond its rating.

If there is no flicker, then the 72 Hz. is likely a good setting.
