Fuzzy boundaries

When I capture footage from my Mini DV camera in .avi format and then play
these .avi files with Win Media Player (or other media player), the very top
and bottom horizontal lines of the video image are distorted. Any one know
why?

those are normal for analog camcorder capture... and for pass-thru via a
digital one...

if it's digital tape shot by the camcorder, try a capture using the WinDV
utility to see if it's consistent and pointing to the camcorder. There's a
link to the utility on my Setup > Other Software page.
