Function "F" keys not working on keyboard

For gosh knows why, my function keys stopped working on my windows 2000
machine. I reinstalled the drivers and tried a different keyboard and they
simply don't work. Any ideas for a remedy appreciated. Thanks.
 
Do you have one of those keyboards with a Function Lock key? F-Lock? If
so, take it outside, smash it with a hammer, stomp on the pieces, burn the
pieces. Or make sure that F-Lock is on.

Nope, no F-Lock........... But I did just now notice that F1 works and
brings up the help menu. The other f keys...notta.
