Full screen mode

On my programs transferred over from XP I keep on getting a message saying
"This system does not support fullscreen mode. Choose 'Close' to terminate
the application." It gives me a choice of close or ignore (of course ignore
does nothing). Is there any way to work around this?

Nope.
You need to update the programs, switch programs, or stay with XP.
Or try installing Virtual PC, and running XP in that.

Vista doesn't have a DOS emulation mode that supports full screen mode (only
a narrow window command prompt mode) so those older games cannot be
displayed. Other than dual booting with Win9x or XP you can try running the
games in an older OS in a Virtual machine (ie. Virtual PC).

If the games are straight DOS games (Keen, Duke Nukem etc.) you can try
running them in a DOS emulator like DOSBox.

So how come some programs (from the same era) work with a full screen while
some come up with this message?

Programs requiring INT10 access will not work in Vista if you are
using Windows Vista video drivers. You need to install Windows XP
video drivers in Windows Vista f you insist on running these programs
on your host.

When you switch to a full screen command prompt in 2000/XP/2003/Vista
you are accessing your video card directly which can potentially BSOD
your machine. This is one of the reasons why this access was removed
in Vista.

It's recommended that you just use DOSBox http://dosbox.com instead of
using non-vista drivers.
