Fujitsu Siemens product recovery CD-Rom Winxp

Would be grateful if anyone can tell me if the Fujitsu Siemens Product
Recovery CD-Rom for XP Home Ed wipes all data or is there a repair facility?
Can not backup due to faulty CD writer.

Perhaps something to ask in Fujitsu support?
Buy a new cdr, they're not expensive,
Is there a reason for the reinstall?

Hi. Have tried Fujitsu support - useless.
Not sure we need new cdr - just another problem with the system. Win Xp
problems. I ran sfc /scannow and files are missing but do not have XP disk
as it was preloaded. Do have recovery cd but am concerned about losing data.
I am trying to backup hence the problem with cdr.
I posted requests for help last night re problems with the system i.e. wrong
date and time at startup (now resolved), applications not working esp.
restore. Ran 3 antivirus scans - no problems, same with Spybot. I have AVG,
ZoneAlarm and Defender installed - no problems. I have the AVG rescue dick
but have read that it is useless with XP!
All I can do now is try to backup and then run the recovery CD in the hope
that it does not delete everything.

Yep,you can Run recovery console from the recovery Disk supplied, also back
up is a good idea but you will not lose any data from runing the recovery
console to fix the missing files.
