ftp vs http

i have a protected (password) ftp service set up on my pc which i am happy
with - however, some external, restricted networks dont allow ftp access to
the web (presumably to restrict downloading) and only support http web
access

i could set up http service, but i wont be able to secure access to
(password protect) it

is there anyway to access a web page on an ftp service without the browser
knowing?

No, they are two different protocols.
