FTP vs HTTP

when I use FTP client , I tell it
site= ftp://home.tampabay.rr.com
default folder = exportdata
my user name = server
my password = *
& all works ok but if I give a file addy there in a
email or here its NG. Try
ftp://home.tampabay.rr.com/server/ExportData/XPsortOrder.gif

But if I give the URL http addy of
http://web.tampabay.rr.com/server/ExportData/XPsortOrder.gif
u can get the file.

So I update my site using FTP but its only accessable
to public via http. I also know there r FTP sites that
u can access without a password & HTTP sites that
require password when u log in. Is the only fuctional
difference that u can upload to FTP but not to HTTP?

I asked RR how their FTP & HTTP interacted but they
refused 2 answer. My guess is there is just 1 set of
files pointed to in 2 ways & that RR has set it up so
FTP is not accessable. Note the root directory
ftp://home.tampabay.rr.com has no entry for 'server' or
any other user subdirectory which is bafling.

I'm trying to determine how this works but can only
guess based on what it can & cant do.I could find lots
info on FTP & HTTP separately but none on interaction
so I could really use ur help in verifying my
conjectures & filling in the gaps..

Comments/suggestions/corrections appreciated.
Thanks- bye- Larry

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

|When you access the files via FTP or via HTTP protocols, there is a

Greetings Ian & thank you for your response.

"My guess is there is just 1 set of

FTP is not accessable" That true? When I ftp file it is
immediately listed at http!

Your help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks- bye- Larry
