FTP Using Internet Explorer is Slow....Slower than a fat kid with a broken leg

Hi,

I have a shortcut on my desktop that is a link to an FTP server. For
some reason, when I click the link, it takes about 3 or 4 minutes for
Internet Explorer to open. When it finally opens up, all the
files/folders are present. During those 3 or 4 minutes, IE is locked
and I can't open any other windows.

I have two computers at my desk, one of them opens the window right
away and the other one freezes for a few minutes. I checked my
internet options(enable folder view for FTP as well as passive mode)
and both computers have the same options checked.

This is becoming a problem because this is happening to lots of our
users and they don't realize that it is in fact working, just taking
ages to connect. They assume it doesn't work and call for support.

Does anyone have any clue why it's quick to access the FTP server with
one computer but not with another one ?

Please note, computer has complete up to date anti-virus/anti-spyware,
etc running. I can rule out viruses and other bad stuff. Firewall is
also disabled on both machines.

Internet explorer shouldn't be used as a regular ftp client, it is very
slow in general, not sure why it runs ok on other computers of yours
though. You need an ftp client like cuteftp or wsftp (there are tons of
them around).

Flamer.
