I set up an FTP server on my WinXP Pro machine, using IIS.
I configured the connection through my Netgear RT314 router, changed
the filter rule to forward FTP connections to my machine, and enabled
port-forwarding of port 21 to my IP address. Got these kinks ironed
out, had a friend try to log on from his home machine- success!
But...
File transfer from my machine to his is VERY slow, i.e., a 22mb file
took over 12 minutes to transfer. He is actually on the same cable
internet system as me, in the same town, so I was expecting rather
faster transfer times than that. At this rate, it's faster to just
grab the file from the internet.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to speed things up? I wasn't using
any other programs at the time that would use my bandwidth.
Thanks
Severian
