FTP from client

I have a three box network, all with XP, one as a gateway. I use Etlin http
proxy. I'm not able to FTP from the two client machines.

I would check the firewall settings first.

Your computer that is acting as a gateway has to have FTP server enabled on
it I think. If you choose the advanced tab under the connection properities
and then select settings under internet connection sharing you should be able
to check FTP server. that might help.
