Save to FTP from any application?

(Maybe the following is a built-in Windows feature, but I haven't
found a way to do this.)

I have several sites I can FTP to. Usually, I store my files locally
and then switch to a FTP client and upload them.

Is there a way to circumvent this and upload directly from the Save
dialog of any Windows application?

E.g., I can *open* a file from TextPad using ftp://username:p[email protected]/file.txt
, but it seems I cannot "Save" or "Save as" to an FTP URL/directory.

I am aware that most Windows apps aren't/don't have FTP clients, but I
thought that this is a service on system level.

Bonus question: I would like to do this from Windows machines and Macs
.... :)

Thanx!

Add your FTP site as a network place and it will be available under Save As
in any program using the common open/save dialogs.

Hello Richard,

thank you for your tip - almost there.

I added an FTP site as a network place just you suggested, and
clicking it in the network places window lets me browse the remote
directory. So far, so good.

However, when I try to access the same site/favorite from a Save
dialog, it either fails silently, showing an empty list (TextPad,
OO.org Write) or tells me the address is not valid (Microsoft Word).

Adding the FTP port to the Windows Firewall exceptions list did not
help.

Any idea how to fix this?

Thank you!

Update to my previous post on saving via FTP, if anyone else wants to
try this:

As suggested by Richard, I added my webspace to Network places,
however using WebDAV instead of FTP - and for whatever reason, this
worked right away (and of course, it's more secure ...)

Glad to hear it worked out ... not sure why the FTP site didn't as I use
that all the time.

I tried again, and this time it worked.Seems my web host had some kind
of hiccup.

Thanks again!
