FTP Download Speed Extremely Variable

Starting yesterday, I've been trying to download my entire website --
500-600 MB. I'm using WS_FTP Pro. The download speed is very erratic
and slow. It varies from 1 Kbps to 1000 Kbps. Much of the time spent
between 5 and 40 Kbps.

Obviously at this rate it takes a V E R Y long time. Then late in the
download it fails and will not pickup where it failed, so I have to
start over. As a result I still haven't completed the download. My
service download speed is 5000 Kbps.

Anybody have ideas why this is happening

I had a similar problem and it turned out my router was going bad. If you're
using a router, and it's been around for a while, you might consider
bypassing the router to see if that has any affect.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have an old router. I'll check it
out.
