FTP access in SP2?

D

Dean J Garrett

We have a PC running XP Pro and on that PC we could connect to a remote ftp
site running on an IIS 6 web server. Then we installed SP2 on the PC, and we
can no longer connect to the ftp site.

FTP Folder Error:
An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP Server. Make sure you have
permission to access that folder.
Details:
The operation timed out.

As an experiment, I lengthened the time-out property on the web server for
ftp from 120 to 360 seconds, but it made no difference.

We've tried other IIS ftp sites that we used to be able to connect to, and
the same thing happens. Is this a known problem of SP2?

Thank you!

Perhaps the troubleshooting information in this article may help:

You may not be able to open a project when you try to connect to a remote Windows XP
Service Pack 2-based computer by using the AutoCAD FTP service
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;873185&Product=windowsxpsp2

Here's how to correct the problem after opening Port 21 via the
SP2 firewall Exceptions tab:

1. Open Internet Explorer >Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab

2. Uncheck the box: "Use passive FTP (for firewall & DSL modem capability)
