Frustration with transferring contacts.

I have had a desktop that I use for email, using Outlook Express under
Windows XP SP2 (Outlook is on the machine because I have Office 2003, but I
don't use Outlook).

I just got a laptop, running Windows Vista Home Premium. I want to use
Outlook as my email program on the laptop. I have Office 2003 installed on
the laptop.

How do I get the Contact List, with email addresses from the desktop's
Outlook Express program to the laptop's Outlook program?

My computer knowledge is not expansive, but I do have some knowledge, going
back to Atari Basic!! Why is this so obtuse??? Yes, I've checked MSN for
help.

I REALLY think some of these computer gurus would have benefitted from a
liberal arts education.

I have tried multiple steps via import/export, all to no avail.

I had posted this article on another group but then found this group which
sounds much more appropriate to my problem. If someone is offended by a
single cross post, mea culpa.

Thanks,
Chet

Outlook cannot use OE's data files. You must import them into Windows Mail.
From there you can import into Outlook. So you are asking an OE question.
This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2007
from the
Office family for Intel PCs. For Outlook Express (OE) support try posting in
this newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com.microsoft,public.windoes.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

If this group isn't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups).

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:

Russ,
I've posted and searched info at Outlook Express and got no where, ergo, the
post to this group, sure sounds On-Topic.

You're the first to tell me that it's got to go via Windows Mail. Sounds
typical and I will give it a try.

So,
a. Export contact list from OE on my desktop (running XP) to Windows Mail on
the Laptop (running Vista).
b Export Contacts from Windows Mail on the laptop to Outlook on the Laptop.

How to transfer from OE to Windows Mail is purely an OE question.
Once you have the data in Windows Mail, you can just import it into Outlook:
File > Import and Export > Import Internet Mail and Addresses...
