Frustrating XP Pro Upgrade Problem

Joe

Hey,

I am trying to upgrade to XP Pro from 98 SE and my
installation keeps freezing when it is "Analyzing my
computer". I ran the Microsoft Windows Upgrade Advisor,
but that gets frozen too at about the same point. The
thing it gets frozen on says "DVD Movie Player". I don't
know why it does this though since the only DVD player I
have on my computer is Windows Media Player. I don't even
have a DVD Drive. Anyways, this one part is halting my
installation process and I do not want to have wasted $200
on this upgrade and not have it work. So if anyone knows
how I can correct this problem, please tell me. Thanks.

The first thing to do with an operating system upgrade is to unplug any
peripheral devices from the computer (printers, scanners, joysticks,
etc...). Matter of fact, I just uninstall them. Then uninstall any software
that is unnecessary such as utilities, any anti-virus software, media
programs, etc... (other than programs built-in to Windows or Microsoft
Office). Make sure there are no programs running in the background. Check
the tray by the clock. Also, uninstall any keyboard or mouse software you
may have installed. Most times the version for 98 is not compatible with XP.
Especially keyboard software.
