frustrated webpage creation

I use IE 6.0 and Windows XP. My students created webpages using both Netscape
Composer (from Netscape 7.2) and Microsoft Word 2000's webpage capabilities.
I can view all pages in Netscape correctly and without problems, BUT when I
open the pages in IE, I get either incorrect format (the information is all
over the page and not where we put it originally) OR the main problem seems
to be language on the screen such as <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]-->
<!--[endif]--> . This is complicating the project for my students. Please
help. I want to be able to open each page correctly in either browser
(especially in IE since that's the one I use most). Any suggestions? I'd like
to get their webpages up and running as soon as possible.

I have also found the frustration of having a "windows installer" box open
when moving from page to page in IE....suggestions on what to do with that?
