frozen toolbar

I am unabkle to ad a total column to my worksheet. I cannot add anything to
any. It seems that the cells are working but adding to it via toolbars of
keyboard produces nothing

Try resetting them:-

View / Toolbars / Customise / Toolbars Tab - then click on Reset.
