frozen keyboard?

my dad's computer keyboard doesn't seem to be hooked up right. when he
tries to type letters, nothing appears. yet, the cursor is blinking, and
the tab button makes the cursor move around. but the letters won't appear.

Wired or wireless keyboard. If wireless try changing the batteries.

If the keyboard is PS/2 ( round ) plug try it in another socket , as
it will only work in it`s designated socket .
