Frozen applications

I was working on a film clip using Windows Movie Maker and was about to save
it. Somehow I wound up opening some other applications and now all of them
are frozen. My film isn't saved and I put a LOT of work into it, so I don't
want to lose it. But none of the opened applications will close. They've all
frozen. How can I close them all without losing my film?

A teen movie?

Task manager tried?

Otherwise... gone with the wind;-(
