Frontpage Web Search

Hi There
I have a problem with the Web Search function provided by Frontpage 2003.
My Website is divided into a main web and five(5) subwebs.
The search function is provided on each page. The problem is that the search
function only provides search results for that subweb but not for my entire
website.
For example: I have a subweb name People, If I search for something from
inside the People subweb the search results will only contain info. from the
People subweb instead of the entire website. Also, it returns information or
search results containing information found in the control panel of the host
- such as site stats and such.
Is there a way to have the web search function search my entire site,
excluding the site's control panel info?
The site is hosted on a unix server, with the frontpage enten.

If the search is returning site stats and control panel info, either the control panel and
site statistics or the search feature is(are) improperly installed.
Site statistics, and the control panel on a UNIX server are "Normally" **above the root of
the web** and not accessible via search.

If you can see the control panel and statistic files when you open the web in FrontPage,
there is a problem.
Contact your host.

Thanks Steve, and I have contacted the host as you suggested. But that might
not answer the other big question I have which is getting the search bot to
resturn results from the entire website instead of the subweb that is calling
the search function

On Unix servers the FP search uses WAIS, which is always restricted to the
subweb the form is in.
On a Windows server using Index Service, there is more flexibility.

In addition to Steve's comments, some hosts place the stats files in a
folder inside the web site, convert this folder to a subweb to remove it
from the search - conversion should not affect the statistics function. As
Steve said, the control panel files should never be inside the website,
which must be happening in your case because it is being picked up by the
search.

If you are on a Windows Server with Index Server, the host would have to create a Index Catalog that
includes the subwebs.

I contacted the hosting company and we got rid of the stat folder. However I
am still getting search results from only individual sub web not my entire
website

You must create a search form in the root web and each subweb unless you are hosted on a Windows IIS
web server with Index Server, in which case your web host would have to delete any current Index
Catalog and then create a new one that contain the content of the root web and the subwebs.

I do not mean to be a pain, but I have put the search function on the main
page of each sub web. Plus I took one of the sub webs search word link and
link it back to the sites' main page, so that the main page and this one sub
web is shearing the same search page - with no luck.
Also, I read some where in this newsgroup that if you want to hide a page
from search then put it into a folder. If this is true, then it seems to
defeat the very thing I am trying to accomplish.
There must be a way to search a Frontpage 2003 web site consisting of
subwebs, running on a UNIX server with the FT EXT. 2002 installed.
Do I need to put in meta data in each page for this to work?
I searched Frontpage 2003 KB looking for a solution and found no answers.

1. You can not share a search between the root and subweb(s) unless your are hosted under Windows
IIS with Index Server and your web host create a specific index catalog for you that catalogs the
content of both the root and subweb(s).

2. If you want to hide a file from the search, you have to place them in a folder that begins with a
underscore, however this may not apply under Windows IIS and Index Server
