How to download Navigation View in FrontPage?

G

Guest

I manage a large website (2000 pages) with FrontPage 2002. Recently I
created a subweb and added a new theme to the subweb.

After I published it to my host, the new theme appeared on some pages that
were not in the subweb at all.

A support person at my web host recalculated the site, and the pages
returned to normal.

A couple days later I published the website from the host to my computer as
a backup -- and everything was fine EXCEPT that the Navigation View now
contains only ten pages. All the original pages seem to be on the site; the
navigation bars and links still work -- but the pages have almost all gone
just from the Navigation View page.

How can I restore the Navigation View?

Thanks!

Hi Doug,

If you open the site live on the server..do all the pages that you have in
navigation view there..show as you want them?

If so you could try publishing down to your local again doing a "Full
Publish"

HI,

Joe -- Thanks! But the same thing happens when I open the site live on the
server. Just ten pages show up, most of them pages I've created or changed
recently.

If you want to see it yourself, the url is www.witherspoonsociety.org

Thanks.

The normal navs don't cross the subweb/web divide. You have to use custom
link bars to link to the subweb from the main web - maybe that's the prob.

What's the name of the subweb?

I don't think the subweb survived the recalculation of the site. I can't
find it on the folder list, at least. It is still listed, though, on the
site on my hard drive (which still has the Navigation View intact, too). It
is "217th GA"

Std flash object include a link for them to download Flash if they don't have it

Try removing the space from the folder (subweb name), right now it's
217th%20GA make it 217th_ga -see if that helps.

Thanks, Rob! But before I try that, I'm wondering whether I should just
delete the subweb from my hard drive, then publish again to the host drive.
Would that let the host site recover?

I'll try whichever you think might work -- but I hope it won't make it worse.

Nice idea -- I should have thought of that! But Frontpage won't let me
rename it. That command is greyed out. So ....??

It should...open the subweb, then go to Tools | Site Settings | General tab.

Thanks -- That did enable me to change the filename on the subweb folder; I
republished it to the host.

But when I publish again from the server to my hard drive, I still have the
same problem -- and Navigation View still shows about ten pages. It has not
made the mess it did before just after I created the subweb, but the
navigation view is not fixed.

One thought: When my ISP recalculated the site after the first problem, it
at least repaired the damaged pages in the web. Should I ask themn to do
that again?

OR what?

Thanks for sticking with this!

You can recalculate hyperlinks yourself. Just open the website live on the
server and Tools | Recalcuate Hyperlinks.

Remember though; normal nav bars will not cross the web/subweb boundry you
have to use custom nav bars links whatever they call them.
