REQUEST
FrontPage should provide trackable design progress flags.

The existing default underscnst.gif image is easilt adapted into 5 "color
coded" work buttons to provide visual alerts (and workgroup catagories) to my
design team. The following button desciptions vary from project to project
and from team to team.
white = general notification
red = URGENT team response
yellow = team review
green = rebuild in progress (allow 5 days)
blue = no resolution path: team input please
5 buttons are as much as my teams can ever deal with. But additional buttons
could be added to the default 5.

FrontPage 2004 makes it a snap to drag and drop work buttons from the folder
list onto a page for browser review. I keep all work buttons in a special
folder.

First, click the Web Sites tab and select Hyperlinks from the Web Sites task
bar. I can see how my pages are statused by clicking each work button in the
folder list and viewing the pages containing the button in the Hyperlinks
view. This takes 5-60 minutes to attend to each day!

REQUIREMENT
Frontpage requires a "Status Pane" to house design tools that function to
enhance devlopment review by the design team. The requirement will further
implement existing FrontPage innovations (comments catagories).

The status pane interface should display just 4 columns.
Column 1 - undrcnst.gif white, red, yellow, green, blue tinting
Column 2 - path filename (s) or empty
Column 3 - author comment (s) or empty
Column 4 - workgroup catagory (s) or empty
Files are munually added to the status pane by drag and drop from the Folder
List. The color status buttons give the status pane an instant visual appeal
and appearance of functionality.

Columns are priortized by clicking on column headers. For example, clicking
on the Flag column releases the following column distribution.
Column 1 shows work buttons (white-red-yellow-green-blue buttons).
Column 2 shows site files containing work buttons (filename path).
Column 3 shows any page comments (design or code view).
Column 4 shows the assigned Workgroup Catagory (folder list filename
properties).
Column 2 (3, 4) are grouped by status button, so all "white" buttons are
grouped together.

Clicking on the Catagory column groups status by catagory. and so on

Double clicking any row opens the relevant page for editing in FrontPage.
This is a default double click. Right clicking any row brings up standard
context menus for filenames, comments, and workgroups (columns 2-4). The
status button right click is associated with the status context menu.

FrontPage 2003 has initiated this context with the 6 items on the Web Sites
tab. In addition to the 6 task bar items there should be a way to reassign
staus (change the status button for a row).

The five buttons are always displayed. If filenames, comments or catagories
have not been assigned to a button then those columns are empty.

Filenames, comments and categories are assigned automatically to the Status
pane when a FrontPage author places a status button on any page. The location
of the button images is up to the builders of the FrontPage application.

A filename does not need a comment or catagory as these are added by authors.

The "Comments" column should extract page comments beginning from the top of
the page; if there are no page comments the Comments box is empty. A maximum
4 text lines are available in the status pane for each row's comment field.
The comment field is collapsed if it is empty (same behavior for filename
field).

METHOD
Because "Status" view integrates with kernel functions it must be developed
by Microsoft rather than as an msi or com add-in. The FrontPage product is
enhanced as a web editing program. Other products (3rd party) can be
integraqted with the Status Pane in the existing or in subsequent FrontPage
versions.

Seems like a lot of extra work to replace functions already available in View Reports Workflow - Review Status
- agree the color coding might be nice, but since all reports are filterable not necessary
