FrontPage not the default editor...

L

Luther Moon

Hello... I presently have FP XP installed. I recently installed a trial
version of FP 2003, decided that I wasn't ready to keep it just now, and so,
I did an uninstall.

At the time that I installed v2003, I did so in a completely different
folder seperate from my Office folder.

The situation that has now instigated this post is that FrontPage XP claims
now that it is not my default editor, and when I say 'yes' I wish for FP to
be my default editor, it appears to happen, but fails.

The next time I open FP, I am again prompted "would I like it to be my
default editor". I have also tried rebooting. I am running WinXP Pro

Anyone know how to get me through this? As it happens, it also does not show
up in my editor button on Internet Explorer as an available editor.

Thanks Guys...

Luther

Have you tried running a repair from Control Panel,
Add/Remove Programs, Microsoft Office FrontPge 2003?

If that doesn't fix the problem, try this. It may at
least make FrontPage visible in the list of HTML editors
under Internet Settings.

1. In Windows Explorer, find any .htm file.
2. Right-click the file, choose Open With, and then
Choose Program.
3. Find your copy of FrontPage 2003 in the Programs box,
or by clicking Browse.
4. Select the check box titled Always Use The Selected
Program To Open This Kind Of File.
5. Click OK.

PS
Several users have reported problems w/ FP2002 (XP) after uninstalling the FP2003 BETA
(seems the uninstall does not clean out some registry entries)

Try the below registry edit before you repair/reinstall MSO XP/ FP 2002

Open regedit and Find the key
hkcu/software/microsoft/frontpage/explorer/fp explorer/settings

Any of the values listed in here that start with the number 5 should be
deleted. There should only be one or two for folder view, but any view that was
used/modified with a beta version of FP2003 could be affected.

Also delete all FP Temp and *.web files before opening FP2002, then run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks
