Frontpage Login is slow

I am trying to login to a Windows 2003 server with Frontpage 2002 extensions
installed. This server is on my local network. When I login to a web site
to make changes using IE) http://app01:81, it logs in very slowly and every
pages opens and saves slowly. If I map a drive to the server and connect to
the web site through frontpage using the mapped drive, the response time is
excellent. Why would this make a difference?
