Front Page vs. Expression

Hi,

I just came across the info at MS that Front Page is going the
way of the dinosaur and being replaced by the web authoring part
of Expression.

Before I waste a lot of time downloading it, along with all the
installers/faq's/etc. support needed, I thought I'd check to see
if anyone here was familiar with it, and what your thoughts were,
good or bad, w/r to web site authoring. It's supposedly
"standards based", whatever they might mean by that - I'll
believe that when I see it<g>.

I -thought- it was a Beta, from what I read, but the demo
download page isn't very clear on that; apparently it'll stop
working in Feb of '07. And, there is no pricing available on it
yet I've been able to find.

Your thoughts/comments appreciated; even another newsgroup
suggestion if you don't think this is a good place to post this.

TIA,
Pop

That's IE "standards" based......

You'd be better off with Nvu - not only is it free, but it
will give you web pages that are 3WC compliant, not MS IE
compliant....

LOL, I hear ya! NVU's good, but ... it's also been stagnant for
almost two years and there's no one working out the bugs in it.
The "realeased" version of NVU is more accurately a Beta,
regardless of what they called it. Way too many bugs, so I
finally abandoned them after a year of inactivity. I still go
back now and then to see what's on the forums, but nothing ever
changes.
Maybe I'll go check again; it's been a few months since my
last visit, so something could have happened. NVU has the
potential, but a long, long ways to go, I'm afraid, although I do
recommend it to newbies as a WYSIWYG editor.
For now, I'm working with NetObject's Fusion 7. Versions 8
and 9 fell apart so I avoided those. Beware: It's also easy to
get a "free" version of Fusion that's not update-able or
upgradeable but works well enough to get you hooked, and then
charge you full price, which is pretty danged expensive. I got
my version 7 at EBAY for $40, and it works better than 8 or 9, so
until something better comes along... . I got disgusted with
Front Page long ago.

Hmm, thank you Tom; must've had my fingers twisted around each
other; I didn't find anything on expression when I searched, but
it comes up now! Good info, by the way.

Thanks Much,

I've been playing with it for a couple of weeks. It is definitely beta
software. There's a few bugs to work out including the fact that the help
file is not integrated. It looks pretty good so far. It's very promising for
a beta. I've been running it on a test machine with Vista beta and Office
2007 beta. The future actually looks very pretty. As far as standard code I
don't know enough about CSS to say yes for sure. It looks fine to me but I'm
not a web programming expert. I have tried the results in IE7, IE6, and
Firefox on Windows and Linux and have seen no differences in the rendering.
It's worth a look but to me it looks like the finished product is at least a
couple of beta versions away. There's a newsgroup here:
