from windows xp to vista and outlook express to outlook

Recently I went from xp to vista - i've lost all my old email that was in
outlook express. I imported, but nothing has come back. Also, now with
vista, my emails are all being deleted before I can even get a chance to
decide whether I want to keep them or not. I hate this new outlook - I have
said on my preferences to never delete, but it continues. any help would be
most appreciated.

Emails don't self-delete.
Look near the upper right corner, does it say "Show All Messages"
or "Hide Read Messages"? This setting is saved (remembered) for
each folder.
