Fresh installation - HID compliant mouse

Just reformatted + do a clean installation of win xp prof in my new DIY pc.
During the set up/copying files process, I got a message saying that it
cannot copy "mse.inf "(think that the correct name + AT 26% mark) and ask me
to re-try,/cancel/... so I hit retry and it was able to proceed to finish the
installation.

For some reason, my usb kb is ok but not my usb mouse. In the DM there is an
item KB> HIDcompliant. There is another item Mouse - which if you click the
"+' sign it says 'unknown devices'. At first there is an exclamation mark, so
I insert the xp cd and ask it to search the drivers from the cd (item by item
in the cd) and I do not know which file did the trick and when I reboot, the
exclamation is gone. However I still cannot use the usb mouse. I convert this
usb mouse into a ps2 adapter and I can use it on the pc. If I change another
usb mouse + plug into the pc, I still canoot use the mouse indicating that my
own mouse is ok. Now how can I resolve this issue. Look forward for your
advice and appreciate yr assistance,thanks

Do other USB devices work, such as a game pad, printer, etc.? Is there an
installation CD for the mouse? If so, try running it. Is your MB USB 2.0
compliant? Check your BIOS settings and see what the settings are for your
USB ports- Auto, Legacy, whatever your particular settings selections may
be.

My usb kb is working fine n the mobo is usb 2.0 compliant n bios auto. when I
bought it, the shop did not give me the cd for the mouse (gigabyte brand). As
mentioned in my OP, the usb(gigabyte)>convert to ps2 mouse is working fine
but the roller does not response. Just dont know if I should reformat or do a
repair installation, Any opinion? Thanks for your time
