Fresh Install Win XP Home Problems

B

Hi, I am installing windows xp home edition on a new
computer. It boots to the cd and then loads all the
files and drives. I go through the NTFS format of the
drive and then continue to the rest of the setup and
agree to the agreement, select the partition I want to
install to. It then copies the setup files to the drive
and restarts the computer. The problem occurs when it
restarts, it does not recognize that the setup files were
copied and asks me to do what I just mentioned all over
again. It cycles this over and over and wont get to the
rest of the windows setup. What do I do????

When it restarts, does it ask if you want to boot to cd and/or are you not
pressing a key and just letting it boot off the hard drive?

Did you remove the CD from the drive prior to reboot?

I have the same problem Brutal's experiencing. After experienced this three
times, I've changed BIOS to start from HDD but still the same.
Annonymous's suggestion - removing the CD before the restart - doesn't work
as I've tried that too.
I'm trying to install it on a new machine (DIY).

Yes I have taken the cd out and put it back in... the
strange thing is that when it says boot to cd i take the
cd out right then and it loads. It's like the bios wont
boot to the harddrive. I loaded xp, installed software,
then rebooted and it wont boot to the harddrive. Every
time i reboot, i have to have the xp cd in to boot, but
remove it right as soon as it starts loading the boot
from cd to get xp loading. Any suggestions???

The CD should not boot to it unless you press a button to do so when it
prompts you if you would like to boot to cd. If you don't touch anything,
it will attempt to boot to the next device listed in your BIOS boot order.

I would suggest checking in your BIOS to make sure that it attempts to boot
to CD and then to the correct hard drive.

Hey Brutal.
I'm a technically disadvantaged person but I've solved the problem of ours.
It seems the newer HDDs don't need to set jumper to Master. I was rechecking
inside my system and the HDD (Western Digital Caviar)'s instruction
indicates when installing a single HDD there's no need to use a jumper.
Think back when we start up PC takes rather long time to recognise the HDD?
I have no explanation behind this but.
Try take off the jumper and restart.
Good luck, Brutal. :)
