Fresh Install. How, please?

I recently upgraded from Win98 to Win2000 pro. Even though I picked
"fresh install", hoping to erase everything, once done, stuff from
Win98, including programs I installed were still there.

How can I erase everything and actually do a real "Fresh Install" as
if nothing were on my computer before? I think what is let over has
been causing my problem and using up space for things I no longer use.
The stuff is not listed on Add/Remove programs, but the folders are
still there. I imagine numerous other files (dll's and things) are
still there also.

A detailed explanation on how to do it is needed, and most certainly
will be appreciated by someone who wishes he knew as much as you guys
do.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Mark Ferrante

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

During Windows 2000 setup, at some point, will want to confirm the previous
operating system for the upgrade; at that point you'll simply insert the
qualified product install CD for it to verify. Then the install will
proceed.

Correct me if I am wrong but... In addition to what Dave posted....
Take the w2k cd out after windows gets installed (if you boot from the w2k
cd) or at least don't press any key during the restart which will cause the
pc to boot from the cd.
I've done this and ended up with a dual boot option for two installs! <sigh>
