frequently used fonts list

My frequnetly used fonts list - it appears at the top of the fonts drop down
menu - is getting crowded with fonts I don't freqently use. How ironic. Is
there any way to clear this list?
 
It's not a "frequently use" list but an MRU ("most recently used") list. The
only way you can get your favorite fonts on it is to use them more recently
than the others.

You can also clear it by editing the Registry. You don't say what version
you're using, but for Word 2000, see "WD2000: How to Turn off the Font Most
Recently Used (MRU) List" at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=199785; for
Word 2002, see http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=289506; for Word 2003, see
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=820917.

Can this list also be removed in Publisher?

The recent file list in Publisher (2003) is stored in the registry at
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Publisher\Recent File List
You would have to delete the unwanted entries directly from there.
