range" pops up. and the color, which is supposed to be 32 bits, wont stay in
32 bits. everything has been updated. in first problem-even the backup disk
is working. thanks

Safe Mode uses VGA (16 bit) - Normal boot failure but Safe Mode boot success
indicates a driver problem (as suggested by DL)

"Frequency out of range" hold the clue... the video card may not hold the
set frequency anymore due to driver problem or video card damage... so you
need to lower it to where it will work... Control Panel \ Display \ Settings
\ Advanced \ Adapter \ List of all modes \ select a range where you can keep
the same resolution (Eg: 1034x970) but use a lower frequency, 60, 65
hertz... You can do this in Safe Mode or just logon in the "Last known
configuration setting that worked" option and the resolution may be
automatically changed to the last setting that worked... then check the
setting in Display and adjust it if necessary. You can also logon in the
"VGA Mode" option, that would help to diagnose a video problem with more
certainty.

If the video frequency won't adjust or hold, update the video driver (and
chipset driver if necessary), and if all options fail, you may have to buy a
new PCI Video Graphics Card for PC or GPU Video Graphics Card for
Laptop/Notebooks.

This means that the display settings are beyond what the monitor supports.

Power down, power back on and press F8 while restarting, to get to the boot
selector screen - the one that offers Safe Mode. Select VGA mode, not Safe
Mode.

From VGA mode you will be able to adjust the display to something the
monitor supports. Right-click on the desktop, choose Properties, then
Display. Set the resolution to something appropriate and choose Apply.
the settings will change, and if it's outside the monitor's range, just
wait; the settings will revert in about 30 seconds.
