Have windows ME installed, and wish to upgrade to either
2000 or XP. Currently, French Canadian edition is
installed and would like to change to English. Is it
necessary to format, install full edition, and start over?
Thanks
Glenn.

You can not upgrade one language to another.
A Clean Installation will be required.
You may need a full version, I do not know if ME French will work as
qualifying media if you use Windows XP English upgrade to perform a
Clean Installation.

Thanks for all the answers. Sorry for the email mix-up.
I will check out the sites listed from PA Bear.

Glenn.

Greetings --

You cannot upgrade or convert from one language version of the OS
to another, so you'll have to purchase and use the full version of
English WinXP to perform a clean installation.

Hey Bruce,
Can't you do a clean install with English Upgrade using the French Canadian
CD to prove you qualify for the upgrade? Or will the CD not qualify since it
is the French Canadian version?
There's a $200 question :)

$200 answer, no.

Greetings --

I haven't tried it, but I seriously doubt that the English Upgrade
would be able to recognize the French CD as a valid qualifying
installation CD. Too many of the randomly checked files are likely to
have French names. But it might be worth a try to the OP, if he/she
is assured of being able to return an opened Upgrade package to the
retailer, should the experiment fail.

Well since that would be something no "sane" retailer would ever do then the
$200 question just became a $200 experiment. It just seemed to me that most
of the filenames would be the same so I thought the disk would still appear
to be qualifying.
