Freezing

I am working on a computer that I built for my daughter several months
ago.

ABit AN7 mb (nvidia nforce2 chipset)
512 MB 333 mhz ddr memory
80 G SATA drive
Win2K Pro

Everything was fine for about 2 months. Then the machine started to
freeze randomly. If the computer was left alone for 10 minutes after
boot, it might work for several hours before freezing. If you started
using it immediately, it usually froze within 10 minutes or so.

I tried uninstalling suspect programs and services, without helping

I have tried installing Win2K again (seperate folder), and had it
freeze during the installation. New installation (after retry) had
the same problem).

I am on my way to get a new power supply.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Phil

I'd be surprised if the power supply doesn't fix it. But it could also be a
heat problem. If the new power supply doesn't work, try leaving the case
open and pointing a box fan at it to keep it cool. If that works, your
problem is heat. -Dave

Likely to be the memory. Download and run a full memtest86. Post the results
here if it isnt obvious there is or isnt a problem there.

Thanks everyone.
I should have posted the temps: 55C CPU, 36C System.

I would have run memtest except my disk is 500 miles away, and burning
on the bad machine was a problem.

No clue in the event logs.

It SEEMS (?) to be fixed with the new PSU. Won't be sure for several
days, but is is OK this morning for the first time in a while.

Thanks again for your thoughts.
